Alternatives Vacancy – Perinatal Counsellor

Perinatal Counsellor (24 hours per week)

This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and committed individual who is  willing to work reflectively and collaboratively with other agencies to deliver a counselling service for parents who are feeling distressed, overwhelmed, anxious or who are experiencing low mood within the perinatal period.

Alternatives Counselling team, delivering 1:1 and group counselling to individuals within Dundee as part of a collaboration with PNIMH (Perinatal and Infant Mental Health) and MNP (Maternity and Neonatal Psychology) teams to provide short term counselling for individuals who are in need of support but do not meet the criteria for these higher tier services. The post holder will develop a system of referral with the PNIMH and MNP teams, including clear referral criteria, delivering 1:1 counselling within this framework.

The post holder will also work in partnership with Parent to Parent, collaborating to deliver weekly therapeutic group sessions for parents within the perinatal period.

The post holder will be a part of the mentoring and peer support structures within the Alternatives Counselling Rooms and will participate in the life of the organisation. This is small, non-hierarchical, and passionate team, who aim to create a working environment where team members are supported both in their clinical work and their wellbeing. Regular training, peer mentoring and group supervision are in place to create a supportive working environment.
