Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) is an independent Scottish charity, whose mission is to be the community of support, kindness and challenge where people can help each other, can secure the expert help they need, and collectively advocate for the care that matters to them. We offer vital advice, support and information to those affected so that they can live the lives they want to live and influence public policy to ensure that people get the services that they need. Our renewed ambition is to become Scotland’s leading organisation for person-centred, user-led community support for people with our health conditions.

CHSS is one of the largest volunteer-involving organisations with over 8,000 volunteers enabling us to deliver our No Life Half Lived Strategy.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to drive a strategic and cross-organisational approach to volunteer engagement ensuring our volunteers feel connected and committed to clan CHSS.

This involves acting as a source of expertise around volunteer engagement and  leading on engagement programmes and projects, such as Volunteers’ Week.

You will have

  • Knowledge and understanding of the current volunteering landscape and how this relates to an organisation of the scope and scale of CHSS
  • Experience in the field of volunteer engagement, with responsibility for large numbers of volunteers in different locations across a wide geographical spread
  • Knowledge and understanding of volunteering best practice, policy and innovation
  • Experience of designing and delivering complex, cross organisational engagement plans and communication strategies

Please see the role profile for other skills and experience required for the role.

The role holder will work in a blended manner, working from our Edinburgh office and their home.

CHSS employees enjoy a variety of organisational benefits including: Company pension scheme, generous holiday allowance, company sick pay, employee welfare support and life assurance.

In line with our commitment to safeguarding, this role is subject to a Basic Disclosure check. CHSS is committed to equality of opportunity and to providing a service which is free from unfair and unlawful discrimination. We therefore aim to ensure that no applicant, volunteer or member of staff is unfairly treated on the grounds of offending background.
