News: DVVA Are Here To Help

Dundee Volunteert and Voluntary Action

Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action are here to help the third sector  in response to your questions, challenges and our recent Third Sector Survey around easing of lockdown and volunteers.

Volunteers: There will be many volunteers no longer able to volunteer, due to family / caring responsibilities, so recruiting new volunteers will become essential.

Volunteer recruitment: We can support you to write clear and interesting Volunteer roles / advertise your roles / support with all other aspects of recruitment including induction etc. Support to target specific target groups when recruiting volunteers e.g. targeting students in a wide range of disciplines when recruiting Trustees

Community Response Volunteers:  We know that many people currently on furlough will soon be returning to work. This will inevitably leave a gap for many organisations involved in the Community Response activities. We can help with recruitment in this situation. We have a volunteering app that we use to access over 100 verified volunteers. We can help you to access this pool of willing and able volunteers for one off events and for help with specific tasks.

Referrals: Getting more people to use your services – we can help you promote your services, through our weekly e-bulletin / social media platforms e.g. our Facebook page has over 1800 followers. In Your Neighbourhood (IYN) is also very active on Facebook so remember to tap into that too.

Getting volunteers back into volunteering: We know that some people (volunteers and staff) are anxious and worried about lockdown easing. We can support you to support them. We have access to information and help around getting safely back to work. We can also support you to look at how to re-imagine your work. E.g. what parts of your work can be done remotely? Can some of your services be done digitally and if so, do you have the necessary equipment for both staff and volunteers. These are issues facing the whole 3rd sector and we are looking at ways to share what works and what it takes to make it work.

We are also repeating the successful webinar held last month on the Health and Safety aspects of coming out of lockdown.

Training: we know that most organisations will be moving training online and, this training may be for staff as well as volunteers. We already have access to many online resources, so please ask.

Reminder: whatever your needs, let us help. We are not magicians but we do have access to a vast array of resources and if we don’t know – we will endeavour to find out who does!

Please also share with us your innovation and creative ways to connect / re-connect with your volunteers and any other successful new ways of working.  We love to hear and share good examples.
