Lengthening of the Ukraine Permission Extension Scheme

“To assure employers they can confidently make offers of employment to Ukrainian guests, I have clarified the visa situation below and hope this provides the security required for offers of tenancies/employment to be made.

Those who hold visas under the Ukraine schemes (Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme otherwise known as ‘Homes for Ukraine’, Ukraine Family Scheme and Ukraine Extension Scheme) have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of their visa length. Within 28 days of their visa’s expiration, they can apply for a visa extension under the ‘Ukraine Permission Extension’ scheme. This is a straightforward process and a successful application will add 18 months to their visa.

On 1 September 2025, the Home Secretary announced a further visa extension of 24 months, a further announcement was made 24 February confirming Ukrainians can apply for the visa extension within 90 days of the expiry of their Ukraine Permission Scheme visa, again this is a straightforward process.

I hope this goes some way to providing reassurance when considering applications for tenancies/employment. Further advice is available by calling the UK Visas and Immigration Contact Centre (0)300 790 6268.”
