Police Scotland Youth Volunteers – inspiring testimonials about the benefits of Volunteering

The Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) programme gives young people the opportunity to support their local communities through volunteering alongside the police.

Hear from Dundee volunteers below about how the experience has helped them grow.

When Anya Burns joined Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) in Dundee four years ago, she was too shy to speak to anyone.

Today, after contributing to countless community projects, that’s a different story.

She tells us how the role has helped her build confidence.

Now a head youth volunteer for PSYV, Anya  explains how the role has helped her gain valuable experience for her university applications.

She also shares her top tips for other young volunteers.

Isaac Williamson, from Montrose, joined PSYV two years.

The 15-year-old talks about how the organisation has boosted his social skills.

Isaac says that PSYV has provided him with references for job applications, helping him into the workplace.

He also says the role has helped him meet new people.

Daniel Watson, from Dundee, has clocked up over 1,000 volunteer hours since joining PSYV three years ago.

The 18-year-old, who has worked his way up the ranks to become an adult volunteer with the service, now leads activities and oversees tasks for younger members.

He tells us how volunteering has given him important leadership skills, confidence – and even a new family.
