The state of Scottish volunteering 

Volunteering in Scotland is showing signs of recovery after falling to a low of 18% in 2023, with formal participation rising to 25% in 2024. Some of the key findings about volunteering in 2025 are:
  • The cost of living crisis is closing doors to volunteer participation
  • People are missing out on the wellbeing benefits of volunteering when they need it most
  • The deprivation gap is closing but there is a lot of work to be done
  • The demographic profile of Scotland’s volunteers is changing
