Support for The Scottish Assembly

The Scottish Assembly promotes active political engagement for people with a learning disability and autistic people across Scotland. Its goal is to develop a Learning Disability Inclusive / Accessible Parliament.

Assembly staff, half of whom have lived experience, support others with a learning disability and autism to engage as active and informed citizens in Local, Scottish, and General elections, consultations, and within policy / decision making and assist them to be involved in political processes.

It does this through accessible politics meetings, workshops, conferences, and consultations – providing accessible information, communications, quizzes and surveys on political news and current affairs and assisting people to take part and be included.

Members of The Scottish Assembly have drafted a letter that they are sending out to their Constituency MSP and 7 Regional MSPs.

The letter asks for their support to help The Assembly get continued funding as new rules about funding means that The Assembly is only able to apply for less than half of its funding and is not guaranteed.

Without continued funding, some of the most marginalised people who have been gradually engaging as individuals not connected to other projects or organisations, will be excluded again.

Assembly members have asked me to reach out to people, projects, and organisations who support and / or care for people with a learning disability and autistic people. They want me to ask if you would also contact your MSPs on the Assembly’s behalf to reach as many MSPs as possible and have asked you to please circulate where you can – “together we are stronger”.

I am attaching a Word copy of the template letter and an easy read guide of how to find details for your MSP / MSPs.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or wish to speak directly.

Many thanks and best wishes.
