What is Fair Work First?
It is the Scottish Government’s policy to promote high-quality work and workforce diversity across Scotland. It sets out seven key principles:

- Avoiding inappropriate use of zero-hours contracts
- Tackling workplace inequalities
- Offering flexible and family-friendly working from day one
- Opposing “fire and rehire” practices wherever possible
These principles make a real difference to people, communities, and the economy.
