Bipolar Scotland’s Momentum Works peer mentoring service

Momentum Works is a peer-led service from Bipolar Scotland that supports people at an early stage of their journey with bipolar to feel more confident at work or study. This service is designed to complement, not replace, employability services and is focused on navigating the workplace with Bipolar Disorder, guided by a Peer Worker with lived experience.

Support is delivered by trained peer support workers and peer volunteers who know first-hand what it’s like to balance bipolar with work, study and everyday life.

Momentum Works is for people with a bipolar diagnosis who are at an early stage of their journey.

This includes:

  • People returning to work after an absence
  • People preparing to return to work, study or both
  • People managing work and study together
  • People exploring self-employment or freelancing
  • People feeling uncertain about how to balance work and wellbeing
  • People struggling with a particular workplace issue

Momentum Works offers 1-1 ongoing support for up to 3 months or one off appointments, with some evening slots available. Appointments are held via video or phone call.

Some examples of what appointments are used for:

  • Talk through a workplace or study-related issue
  • Understand rights and available adjustments
  • Explore how to self-advocate and communicate needs
  • Leave with ideas, resources, and next steps
  • Support with transitions after time off
  • Creating a workplace crisis or wellness action plan
  • Understand early warning signs and triggers and how these might look in the workplace
