Project Launch
In Yir Heid is a one-year project which will bring much needed focus to the issue of men’s mental health in Dundee. Through collaborative action planning between men living in the city and a wide range of services, the project will shape a new framework for improving supports and addressing challenges experienced by men in Dundee.
Across Scotland, men continue to experience poorer health and wellbeing outcomes, including higher rates of suicide, drug‑ and alcohol‑related deaths, and significantly shorter life expectancy, particularly in the most deprived communities. While many of the underlying risks are preventable, we know that social expectations around masculinity can make it harder for men to speak openly about their mental health or to seek help when they need it. Locally, partners have highlighted a gap in understanding how these issues are affecting men in Dundee, and what practical steps are needed to make support more accessible and responsive.
