SCaN (See, Check and Notify)
SCaN products complement the ACT packages specifically in relation to hostile reconnaissance at a venue or event.
- See – understanding what hostile reconnaissance is and how to spot it
- Check – knowing what to do if you suspect hostile reconnaissance or identify suspicious activity
- Notify – who should you tell and what should you tell them
There’s an introductory “SCaN for All Staff” module which can be accessed at SCaN for All Staff | Hostile Reconnaissance | NPSA.
Another of the SCaN modules, “SCaN for Communications Professionals” is delivered either in-person or online by CTSAs. The 2.5hr input encourages participants to see communications through the eyes of terrorists and other criminals. They will learn how to use a security-minded communications approach to make it difficult for hostiles to get the information they need and undermine their plans. It’s designed for staff working in communication roles, including internal comms, marketing, media liaison and digital, and is good for improving an organisations “Security Minded Communications” approach.
Dave Kerr, CT Security Advisor will be delivering one of these sessions online to local partners towards the later part of February.
