Spotlight on Dundee Community Transport

What target groups do you help?

Over 65

And ow do the volunteers help?

We have volunteer drivers who assist our members to medical appointments, social activities, shopping or even a treat i.e. a hairdresser appointment or lunch with a friend, anything that will prevent our members becoming isolated or lonely.

We also have a couple of volunteer passenger assistants who help out on our Out & About bus, which takes anyone over the age of 65 out on trips, again to prevent lonliness and isolation.  The bus is still not back running fully yet but we have run in April 2022 and are hoping to run it again in July and August, 2022.

What volunteer roles do you have, and do you have any areas you wish to get more volunteer involvement?

We are always looking for volunteer drivers, as the more drivers that we have the more people we can take on as members.

What skills & experience are required to volunteer with you?

Our volunteer drivers need to have their own car with fully comprehensive insurance, be friendly, reliable and work well with the elderly community.

What training can the volunteer expect?

We don’t do a lot of training but the volunteers are guided by our Co-ordinator and other drivers although we have done First Aid courses in the past.
