About the Organisation Weekday WOW Factor (WOW) is a multi-award-winning Volunteer Involving Organisation (VIO) based in Glasgow. We’re specialists in enhancing the lives of older adults by helping them remain active, connected, independent, and safe. Using Occupational Therapy principles, we deliver vibrant, therapeutic programmes like Daytime Discos, which offer a unique and joyful way for people to move, socialise, and relive memories through music. Volunteers play a vital role in making our sessions inclusive, energetic, and unforgettable.
The Opportunity – Volunteer DJ for Daytime Discos in Angus We’re looking for friendly, music-loving volunteers with a bit of technical know-how to take the lead in creating upbeat and engaging daytime disco experiences. This is more than just playing songs – it’s about sparking joy, movement and connection for our participants.
What You’ll Do:
Operate mixing decks, microphones, and simple lighting equipment (training and support provided)
Create and play fun, nostalgic playlists tailored to an older audience (50s–80s) -If possible use the mic to energise the room, encourage dancing and connect with participants
Help set up/pack equipment and support the running of the event
Build rapport with older adults and contribute to a warm, inclusive environment
Time Commitment: -Weekdays only (typically between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, depending on the event schedule) -Frequency is flexible – from once a month to more regular sessions
Locations vary across Angus
Support Provided: -Instruction on the use of our music/mic/lighting equipment -On-site staff support during all events
Expenses covered where appropriate

Basic Skills for a Volunteer DJ: Music appreciation – Enjoys a wide range of music, especially from the 1950s to 1980s, and be able to elicit a playlist with an appropriate back-up playlist for every event
Basic tech confidence – Be familiar with use, maintenance and care of mixing decks, laptop/playlist apps, microphones, simple lighting.
Clear and friendly communication – If possible be comfortable speaking to a group using a mic to introduce songs and engage with the audience but support can be provided
People skills – Approachable, friendly, energetic, and able to build rapport with older adults, some living with dementia
Audience awareness – Able to read the room and adjust music or energy levels accordingly to keep participants engaged with motivating music. Accommodate song requests, and ensure a fun and safe environment. Recognise when someone is feeling isolated and help to join in with light touch befriending
Reliability and timekeeping – Arrives on time, prepared and committed to agreed sessions
Problem-solving – Can stay calm, troubleshoot and work around small tech issues or changes on the day, reporting to the Community Development Officer
Basic health & safety awareness – Understands safe equipment use and creating an accessible, hazard-free environment. Supports and adheres to the health and safety policy. Be aware of potential hazards and report to Community Development Officer Openness to guidance – Willing to take direction and learn from the WOW team Positive attitude – Brings enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of fun to every session
Daytime Disco sessions take place in various accessible community venues across Angus. Specific locations will be shared in advance with volunteers based on upcoming event schedules. Travel guidance, including public transport options or directions, will be provided ahead of each session. Where possible, reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed in line with WOW’s volunteer expenses policy.
